1. Make it sparkle. With most bathroom suites being white these days, it’s harder than ever to hide any mould. Before you start with anything else, give everything a really good scrub to get rid of water and soap stains. Take a look at the grouting and silicone and replace that too, if it’s needed, and make sure the floor is scrubbed clean while you’re there.
2. If your bathroom is filled with kids’ toys, now’s the time to pack them up and find a place to store them out of the way. It’s hard for potential buyers to imagine themselves relaxing in the tub surrounded by a dozen rubber ducks!
3. Pick an accent colour or theme and pick up a few new things to give the bathroom more of a ‘feel’. There’s no need to go overboard; it’s relatively cheap and easy to pick up a couple of new towels, a bathmat, and a new shower curtain all in the same colour, plus maybe a toothbrush holder and soap dish. The idea is to make the room seem fresh and new.
4. Unless the bathroom is incredibly old, don’t bother putting in a new suite – you’ll almost certainly not get this investment back. Yes, even if it’s a classic eighties peach or avocado coloured suite, making sure it’s clean and tidy is more valuable than replacing. You never know, the new buyer might have plans to rip out the bathroom and turn it into an ensuite anyway.
